Welcome to the Peak of Summer!

July is certainly the hottest month of the year, with heat waves causing most of us to stay inside as much as possible! Though as soon as the sun begins to set, the breezy, balmy weather beckons us back outside…So whether it’s drinks with company on the deck, a dip in the pool, or a trip to the beach, we hope you cool off in style ⛱️

On this end, our very own Dr. Omene is making a trip up to Maine, her home state, to visit her family! An ideal time indeed, given that summertime temperatures typically only reach 80-85 degrees 👌

Keeping Good Oral Health With Clear Aligner Therapy

While clear aligner therapy (e.g. Invisalign or Spark) is both wonderful for improving the form and function of your smile, it does require us to pay special attention to our oral health. This is because the aligners partially block saliva flow to our teeth, which contain enzymes for breaking down food and cleaning our mouth. So to compensate, it’s extra important to brush after each meal, floss, and clean our aligners at least twice a day.

Below, you’ll find some other useful tips for keeping good hygiene during Invisalign treatment!—

• Consider investing in a waterpik if you haven’t already. This can be especially useful for people with wide gaps between their teeth because floss can be a little too flimsy to properly clean these crevices.
• Soak your retainers in a 1:1 solution of white vinegar and warm water for about 30 minutes. Repeat as often as you’d like. 
• When flossing, do not use the same section of floss twice. Doing this passes bacteria back and forth between different parts of your mouth, instead of cleansing them.
